Pushkar Fair

The Pushkar Fair, also known as the Pushkar Camel Fair, is one of India’s most vibrant and colorful cultural events, held annually in the town of Pushkar in Rajasthan. Typically taking place in November, around the time of the Kartik Purnima full moon, the fair attracts thousands of tourists, pilgrims, and traders from across the country and the world.
Initially a livestock trading event, particularly for camels, horses, and cattle, the fair has evolved into a grand spectacle of Rajasthani culture. It features camel races, beauty contests for decorated animals, folk music, dance performances, and traditional competitions such as turban tying and mustache contests. Local artisans also display a wide variety of handicrafts, textiles, and jewelry.
The fair holds religious significance as well. Devotees come to bathe in the holy Pushkar Lake and offer prayers at the Brahma Temple, one of the few temples dedicated to Lord Brahma in the world.
Blending spiritual devotion with festive celebration, the Pushkar Fair offers a unique experience of rural India’s traditions, making it a must-visit for culture enthusiasts and travelers seeking an authentic glimpse into Indian heritage.
